“Dreams aren’t warnings; they’re just reminders of whether you are happy or sad."
Truer words were rarely spoken… especially by a nine year old. My daughter was explaining it to one of her stuffed animals who had had a bad dream and was scared it would happen to them. Little did she know how useful those words would be to me. Let me explain. As you probably know, last Friday was Chinese New Year. Well, on Thursday night I dreamt that I was peed on by a horse. No joke. Oddly, in this dream I had chosen to lay down in a stable (not the smartest move in any case) and a horse stood over me and peed on me. It wasn’t until the next day, when Siri wished me a Happy Chinese New Year, that I remembered the dream and just about had a panic attack. You see, this is Chinese New Year ushers in the year of the horse. “What sort of influences will the Horse exert in 2014? Since the Horse is a fiery creature, watch out for passions running high. The Horse is a portent for romance luck for those born under the signs of the Snake, Rooster and Ox… Since 2014 is the Wood Horse, the Wood element is about reaching onwards and upwards, planning ahead… Whilst the Wood element may influence you to move forwards, the Fire in the Horse, which sits beneath the Wood, can burn up some of your designs, if you are not careful…. It will be a fast year full of conflicts according to some astrologers, who see wood as providing fuel for the energetic horse sign. The later part of the year is “yin fire”, increasing the potential for heated clashes even more.” (http://www.fengshuisociety.org.uk/2014-year-horse/) My imagination went into overdrive imagining all of the portents of my dream. And, since 2014 has already been a somewhat rough year for me and my family, the idea of it getting worse had my stress levels at an all new high. And then I remembered what my daughter had told her stuffed animal and took a calming breath. Rather than being a warning of things to come, this dream was a very real representation, or as my daughter would say reminder, of how I felt about what was currently happening. Still, just to be on the safe side, I looked up my Chinese astrological horoscope for 2014. Here’s what it said: GOAT 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015 What if what you wished for appeared right before your eyes? Would you be overjoyed? Or would you wonder if something that came so easily would be worthy? There is no need to chase after what you want. Trust that the universe can help you draw to you what you truly need. Count all the blessings in your life. When you appreciate what is truly valuable, you will be glad you have had it all along. Seems like great advice no matter what year it is. I can certainly focus on appreciating what is most valuable, such as the fact that I have a wonderful, smart, amazingly intuitive daughter who somehow knows what I need to hear even before I do.
