Where I've Been
Here I have culled my favorite resources, tips and recommendations from my travels. Note: My information is correct as of this very moment. Which means, by the time you read it, the hotel may have become so trendy they had to take it offline:>) If, however, in your own searches you have updated information, please feel free to add it in the forum section at the bottom.

Hotels Grange White Hall - London 2-5 Montague Street, London WC1B 5BU +44 (0) 20 7580 2224 "Right next to the British Museum (literally, your room may look onto the back of the museum) this hotel was cozy, but nice. Best: The front desk woman who helped me practice my Italian for the second part of my trip. Worst: The noise from the parties held in their back garden and no air conditioning so the windows had to stay open." The White Hart Inn - Gloucestershire (jane Austen country) High St, Winchcombe, Gloucerstershire GL54 5LJ +44 (0) 1242 602359 "After spending the night at a dreary, run down spot in Alton (which, granted, gave me a plot line for my next book - so if you are curious, you can read about it someday in Jane and Harry) Anyway, we were ready for a lovely, quaint, English country Inn. And this is just what the White Hart is! Located near the top Jane Austen spots, I would have loved staying longer just to walk the countryside. Best: Hands down, the best food of our trip at the pub there. Worst: A bit off the beaten track with not much except rolling hills and sheep around you (also could be a nice thing if you want to escape.) Jane Austen's Apartments: Bath Boutique Stays - Bath +44 (0) 7960 392068 "What more can I say... you are staying overnight, literally, in the same location where Jane laid her head (for part of her time in Bath.) The apartment was updated to a very high (though modern) level and was super comfortable. It is within easy walking distance of all tourist places in Bath and... come on... you are staying in Jane's home. Best: duh! I had the most wonderful dreams about Jane that night. Plus the property managers were wonderful to work with. Truly accommodating. Worst: Two night minimum and the modern furniture sort of ruined the atmosphere if you are trying to channel Jane. Ettington Park Hotel - Stratford-Upon-Avon Alderminster, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Warwickshire CV37 8BU +44 (0) 845 072 7454 "This was a complete surprise. Meant to be a stop-over on our way up to Manchester, I (and more importantly my daughter) wishes we could have stayed longer. With a pool and secret passages everywhere, it is a perfect place to bring kids. And, it is very close to Shakespeare's town of Stratford-Upon-Avon, and all the highlights that brings. Best: I was sold upon seeing the bicycles and Whellies lined up by the front entrance for guests to use. I also was amazed at the value for the overnight price. Worst: Food selection was limited on property, although the morning breakfast was lovely. |
