"Nice to meet you."
A constant rotation, circulation of faces and names. Our world is filled with handshakes and smiles and greetings. We connect, then dissipate, then reconnect in a new way or a new place or a new age. You might remark on my philosophical tone. What? You say. You have not written anything in over three weeks, Deanne, and now you hand us this? Perhaps my last three weeks have been spent in introspection. I would like to say so, but in reality they have been spent filling every moment of may day so that I did not have to 'introspect'. For the last nine years I have watched my daughter grow up in this town. On Friday we move. The packers come and, not knowing that half of those boxes are filled with her first letters, or cards from friends, or photos of our neighborhood celebrations, they haul them up into their beefy arms and, without ceremony, insert them into the space in the van they have created not based on importance but on spatial relations. I sit in Starbucks now. My last chance to write here, in this place, with these people who have put up with my nursing a coffee, staring off into space, and creating a beautiful story they can't see and yet somehow believe exists even more than I do at that moment. More than any critique group, these baristas are my support system. Now I leave them. I like to think they and others will miss my smile, my shared overhears, and my interest in what they had to say. Certainly I will miss their stories and their smiles. I whirl around again, in that spiral of interconnectedness that is life. "Nice to meet you," I will say to new acquaintances in my new home. "Nice to have met you," I say now to these people who have become my friends. *** I do apologize for my intermittent blogging lately. I've missed writing... and missed my readers. Please keep the faith. I will settle myself in my new spot and come back stronger than ever. Until then, I wish you many Happy Journeys Inspired by Love. *** To my Starbucks friends from throughout the years: Sam, Mark, and Nicole. Blake, Pete, Jason, Katie, Kelly, Mandy, Kenny, Lindsey, Simone, Irena, Doug, Justin x2, Tammy, Dayne, Erica, Elijah, Katie, Megan, Brad and everyone else who's shared their time and talent with me. I've felt so grateful to get to know you; to see your marriages and your births, your new jobs and your funny journeys. Thank you for sharing the journey with me.
