“I’m doing a chocolate study.”
Dessert is a tricky subject. As a mom, I am always watching to make sure my daughter has eaten enough healthy food to be able to answer yes to the inevitable question of, ‘can I have dessert?’. As a woman, there is a constant level of guilt associated with ordering dessert. As a human, though, I say… bring it on; especially if it is chocolate. On my first date with my husband we went to a restaurant in Portland called, Papa Hayden. Now, the thing about this restaurant is that is it known for its fantastic desserts. And, it would be difficult for most people to pass up the huge array without ordering at least a little something to share. But I think I fell in love on that date when my future husband actually stood up and walked over to the case simply so he could enjoy that moment of picking his dessert. I knew I could spend a lifetime with someone who became that excited by dessert. Since then we have enjoyed many different desserts all around the world… most of them chocolate. One of my favorites was in England, on our first anniversary. We celebrated by going out to a special dinner at Cliveden…a National Trust estate that was also a country house hotel. We were allowed to move to the library for dessert, and when it arrived, they had written Happy Anniversary in chocolate along the edge of the plate. I would be very happy if every special occasion came with chocolate writing. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate anything than with chocolate.
