“Enjoy the little things.”

The escalator allowed me a perfect view of the two women comparing uplifting quotes on a line of t-shirts and sweatshirts hanging on the racks. I had gone into the department store looking for a new, spring, sofa pillow, and ended up walking out instead with a spring t-shirt.

It was apparently meant to be. Just that morning I had been thinking of writing a blog post about ‘the little things.’ Weird, huh?

The weather outside has turned gray again, and I doubt I’ll be wearing that t-shirt anytime soon. But I’m glad I have it. It isn’t always easy to remember to focus on the little things in life that make every day worthwhile- a hug from my daughter, the sweet sound of my dog snoring, an optimistic bird singing its spring song. My days are filled with these, and yet the noise of my to-do list, my regrets, my disappointments drown out their gentle murmur.

One such little thing is the joy I get from writing my blog posts. Yet, they have been crammed aside by new revisions on one of my manuscripts. I’ve missed sharing important little moments with my readers. The horror of my dog being attacked (she is fine,) the accomplishment of finally landing on a new writing spot (I got over the coffee taste thing by forcing myself to only order tea during Lent,) all of the little overhears I have had in my new spot, and the silly moments at our school auction (“Bring it on.”)

Life’s little things deserve recognition and that’s what this blog is for. I’d love to hear about yours too. Leave a comment any time the silence breaks through for a moment and leaves you clear that where you are and what you are doing and who you are with at that very second is the most important little thing of all.

And here’s to every little Journeys Inspired by love.

Oh my goodness, I can't believe on the day that you write a post and use a picture of a rubber duck, is the same day that Callum and I have been decorating a rubber duck for a duck race we are entering this Sunday! It was such a fun activity - it's definitely the little things that can become the most important things when we look back.

Absolutely agree that "Life’s little things deserve recognition." Little things for me right now are luxuriating in spring foliage, appreciating the sound of rain on the deck, listening to my husband sing while he cooks dinner, and taking up walking again after several months of a bad foot.

    Background - Overheard While Writing
It's hard to explain, but 12 years ago, when I started to write seriously, the only place where I could get my work done was at Starbucks.

Since then, 4 manuscripts and 4 favored Starbucks later, I sill find myself drawn to a cozy corner and a half-decaf Americano.... not to mention the many friendly faces that greet me when I arrive.

And, while I try to stay focused, there are some times when the conversations or interactions that surround me draw my attention away from my own characters, and into the world of life's own characters.

This BLOG captures some of those funny, sincere, inspiring moments. Maybe they will give you a reason to write as well.
