Dogs barking, garbage trucks stopping, and other general neighborhoody noises. After weeks of searching, trying and discussing coffee spot favs I have reached a conclusion; there are as many different opinions as there are different types of coffee beans. It seems obvious to me- good coffee, nice setting, friendly baristas, good value, and easy parking. Not so. It turns out that what I think is good coffee, others think isn't strong enough... or is too strong... or too acidic... or too, well you get the gist. And nice setting- that is like opening a can of worms, literally in some cases. What some people think of as neighborhoody, I think of as, well, grungy. Maybe they like that organic feeling? And orange colored counters with metal rims on them do not make me feel hip; they make me feel nauseas. Sooooo, I am still searching for my favorite place (and now taking other's opinions with a grain of salt.) I mentioned that I have a new contender but I'll admit, I'm hesitant to write about it. For one thing, I don't want my husband getting too excited and advocating for it all the time. For another thing, I don't want neighbors thinking I am opening a coffee place. Why? Because as you can see from my photo, my new favorite spot is my front porch (or, if it is too cold, then in my dining room just behind the front porch and looking out over the same view.) I have a lot of reasons for loving this spot, but before I dive into any of them, let me assure you at least one of my concerns is reasonable. Since my husband is my strongest supporter, I can't lay the blame at his feet. Rather, I do worry a bit about it becoming a new hot spot for our neighborhood. Honestly, it's possible. A neighbor once asked if it was happy hour while heading to our house with a glass of wine in her hand and 20 minutes later we had about 20 people hanging out on our front porch. This, in fact, I loved (although I have taken to filling my pantry with essential happy hour foods just in case.) But I definitely can't write and play hostess at the same time, so I would hate to encourage it at coffee time. Since most of our neighbors work, (and hard too), they are excited for happy hour and usually not around for coffee time. So I think I am okay to let my secret spot out. I love my new spot! There, I said it. For one thing I can have any type of beverage I want, made exactly the way I want it (and it is a good value too!) For another reason, I lately find myself with soooooooo much to do that I need every extra second I can get, no time for things like parking and walking and purchasing etc. In fact, as I write this my tea is brewing and I won't have to wait in any lines to pick it up. Finally, the setting is perfect.... as long as we all keep it clean. Which, considering my first concern about my husband lobbying, may be good incentive for my family to help with this. In the past I've had a lot of trouble working from home... it is just to distracting. And perhaps, when I am really digging into my creative project I will need to hibernate again at a local coffee place. But until then, my tea is ready and waiting and my to-do list calls. Here's to enjoying the journey and then returning home! Deanne P.S. Check back Friday for a special edition post on my new project with Inkshares Publishing. Soooo excited that my third book has been accepted by them. Feel free to check in out in the meantime: https://www.inkshares.com/projects/molto-mayhem
